OFBC in Tanzania

In 2010, the Lord led OFBC to partner with full-time IMB missionaries, Dan & Pam Johnson, in Tanzania, Africa. With a specific strategy in mind, OFBC sent several teams each year out into the bush of Africa to share the Gospel with those who have never heard the name of Jesus.  Teamed with our missionaries and four Massai pastors, Mikaeli, Emanuel Saiteru, Emmanuel Laizer, and Moses. The outreach has literally seen thousands of people pray to receive Christ through using the story cloth.

One specific goal was to establish a church in Northern Tanzania where the Bible is taught and believers encouraged.  With each trip to Tanzania, the Lord has used the teams to build His church. Today, a church is alive and well with a Massai pastor who loves the Lord and who is passionate about reaching lost souls in his community.

OFBC continues to send teams into the region focusing on discipleship and presenting the Gospel.  The Johnsons have since retired and moved back to the U.S. while OFBC has continued to take missions and discipleship trips twice a year.

MPP is a ministry led by Eric and Patti Lethco, and was birthed out of their love for the Maasai people and countless missions trips out of Old Fort since 2010. MPP was formed in 2024 and provides training and support for pastors and churches in the North-East Regions of Tanzania.

It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up. -Ephesians 4:11-12

Pray for the Maasai people and our schools. We have 70 students enrolled over our 3 schools located in Longido, Ketumbeine, and Gelai.

Provide

Sponsor one of the student leaders and pastors in Tanzania. Your 2-year, $20 a month commitment would cover full tuition, books, lodging, and food for a student to complete their program. Your generous contribution would help students, families, and teachers to have the resources to complete discipleship and pastor training.

We try to make 2 short-term missions trips per year -winter and summer. These trips have different specific goals, but include evangelistic opportunities, support and encouragement for local leaders and pastors, training in Christian living, and occasionally church building projects.

Lydia Baptist Church

Lydia Baptist Church was organized as a Southern Baptist church on November 7, 1948, in Summerville, SC.  Average worship attendance has been twenty-five since the Covid pandemic.  This contrasts with the previous decade when worship attendance was just under 70.  There has been one recorded baptism in the last three years.  In the last six years, total baptisms were four.  Pastor Bobby Bailey serves as the interim Pastor at Lydia Baptist Church.

In October 2023 Lydia Baptist Church entered a Fostering Partnership with Old Fort Baptist Church.  In a fostering relationship, Old Fort will come alongside Lydia and help create and implement a plan to become a revitalized church that is thriving for the sake of the Gospel in its community.  Old Fort provides prayer support, leadership support, and people resources to assist Lydia for a period of one year. Old Fort will provide leadership to Lydia by helping to assess her current reality and to help in making necessary changes to reach their community with the Gospel. As the two churches partner together, it is the hope of Old Fort Baptist that in the years to come Lydia Baptist will be a gospel-centered, mission-focused, disciple-making church.

Jonathan and Rebecca Edney

Jonathan and Becca were married at OFBC on July 22, 2006. In the Fall of the following year, they began studies at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Jonathan graduated with a Masters of Arts in Missiology in December of 2010, and they were appointed with the International Mission Board (IMB) in November of 2010 with almost 2-year-old Benjamin in tote and Matthew on the way. Matthew was born in Brazil not long after they arrived and they’ve been with the IMB for the last 9 years.

For some years, they were serving as church planters in Sao Leopaldo in Southern Brazil. God has also added to their family since then, Gabriella -who was born on their first furlough/Stateside Assignment in Charleston in 2015. With several changes happening in the IMB as well as family health factors, God has since then brought the Edneys back to the states where they are currently serving the Brazilian community in Charleston! With the help of local churches and organizations, they've planted a church that meets at Northwood Baptist Church off Greenridge Rd called Comunidade Batista de Charleston (CBC). They meet every Sunday night at 6pm.

How you can support the Edney Family now:

  2. Pray for the local Brazilian community to know Christ and for God to use the Edney family to make disciples.
  3. Pray for the Gaúcho people of Southern Brazil to not settle for religious traditions but to know Christ as the all-satisfying Hope.

Trip Guidelines

For those interested in going on a short-term trip, we ask that you follow the guidelines below:

  • Must be able to attend team meetings.
  • Must be responsible for the total cost of the trip.
  • Must be a regular attendee of Old Fort Baptist Church, unless special circumstances apply. Covenant Membership is not required; however, members may be given preference in the selection process when spots are limited.
  • Submit a missions trip application here (For available trips). Some trips may require application outside of our website.
