OFBC Senior Pastor Job Description
The Pastor is responsible for leading the church to function as a New Testament church. The Pastor will lead the congregation, the organizations, the Elders and the church staff to perform their tasks.
- The Pastor is the leader of pastoral ministries in the church. As such, he works with the Elders and the church staff to:
- Lead the church in performing its tasks.
- Lead the church to engage in a fellowship of worship, witness, education, and ministry.
- Proclaim the Gospel to believers and unbelievers.
- Care for the church's members and other persons in the community.
Discipleship, Preaching, and Teaching:
- Expository preaching Sunday Morning
- Bible study class Sunday evening Equip
- Wednesday evening Bible study/prayer meeting
- Daily devotions/prayer with office staff (shared leadership among ministers)
- Actively support small groups
- Actively support Men’s Bible Study
Pastoral Care
- Biblical counseling as needed
- Hospital visitation as needed
- Funerals and bereavement counseling as needed
- Weddings upon request (Pre-marriage counseling included)
- Work with deacons for care of widows and shut-ins
Leadership and Administration
- Lead in the establishment of vision and core values
- Meet with staff regularly to ensure unified efforts
- Supervise ministerial staff
- Monthly calendar meetings with entire staff
- Monthly elders meetings
Other Activities
- Represent OFBC at various associational, state, and national conferences
- Represent OFBC at various community events (upon request)
- Actively support 5&2 Food Pantry
- Actively involved in short-term mission trips
Desired qualifications for the position of Senior Pastor
- Must be ordained as a Pastor by a Southern Baptist Church
- Must be in full agreement with The Baptist Faith and Message 2000
- Prefer at least a master's degree from a Southern Baptist seminary
- Prefer a minimum of 10 years ministerial experience with five years as a lead pastor
- Must be a visionary and constructive leader with a shepherd's heart
- Must be an effective communicator
- Must be able to pass a criminal and financial background check
- The pastor shall have the ability, maturity, and education to meet the needs of the church body.
- The pastor's life-style, habits, and actions, as well as those of his wife, shall be such that it will not bring any disgrace, disparity, or harm to the reputation and ministry of OFBC.
- The pastor and his believing household must unite with OFBC as members
