Research suggests that the most dangerous hours for elementary school age children are the hours between 3 p.m and 6 p.m.  Children may be home alone, on the streets, or in the care of someone who may not have their best interests at heart. Old Fort Baptist Church has a para-ministry called Kids Fort that exists to change the lives of children in our community!  Kids Fort gives students, ages K5 to 5th grade, a place to go after school to be safe, learn about Jesus, and immerse themselves in a curriculum that emphasizes Spiritual growth, academic growth, and enrichment opportunities.

Kids Fort has a new vision and curriculum for the Fall!  Students from the area elementary schools have the choice to attend our after school program where teachers and volunteers share the Bible with them, tutor them in their academics, and give them a plethora of enrichment opportunities.  Students may choose classes such as culinary arts, sports, art, drama, American Sign Language, foreign language, sewing, creative writing, poetry, CPR, health and fitness, cosmetology, gardening, robotics, and more.  Kids Fort will take regular field trips for academic purposes and also to just have a whole lot of fun!  (Field trips always seem to include ice cream.  Not sure how that always happens. Grin.)

The foundation at Old Fort Baptist Church is one of biblical truth, missional living, and vital connections.  Kids Fort encompasses all three of those beliefs and values, as we look to the Holy Spirit to empower us to show the love of Jesus to these children whom He will send us.  Remember, these children are coming to us from the public schools where it is against the law to tell them about the saving grace of Jesus Christ.  The majority of them will be from un-churched families.  We have a mission field right here in our own backyard! Remember when the LORD asked Isaiah, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” (Isaiah 6:8a).  May we be as Isaiah when he responded, “Here am I; send me”  (Isaiah 6:8b).

Please be in prayer about how you can be a part of Kids Fort, starting August 15th.

In Him,
Susan McDonald, MEd. MSL
Director of Kids Fort

*Mrs. McDonald will have an article on the website each week, allowing readers to understand what is happening at Kids Fort, and what is happening in the world of pedagogy (education), as we strive to serve the LORD together.
