Over 2 billion people suffer from soil-transmitted diseases and parasites. They live in areas that do not have adequate sanitation. They struggle with proper hygiene. They do not have the right clothing, resources, or healthcare. And being sick = struggling. Kids miss school, can’t help their families, suffer with pain. Many of these diseases and parasites get into the body because people don’t have shoes.
There are over 300 million children who do not have shoes. And countless more with shoes that do not fit. Sometimes they receive donations of shoes, but these are kids. Their feet grow. And they outgrow donated shoes within a year. Right back where they started. But what can we do about it?
Throughout Jesus’ ministry, He would go from town to town healing the sick and lame, providing what they could not do on their own. Jesus’ act of meeting a physical need and then a spiritual need is the example for us. Old Fort Baptist Church wants to follow this example while sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with those around the world.
As a part of VBS this year, we are encouraging the children to participate in a missions offering. In years past, we have adopted underprivileged children in impoverished countries, given Bibles to missionaries, and supported local missions with food and school supplies. This year, we want to literally touch the world by suppling a physical need that will otherwise go unmet. This ministry is called “Shoes That Grow” by Because International. “Shoes That Grow” consists of a high quality sandal that can adjust up to 5 sizes and are made available in sizes for children to adults. The compressed rubber bottom is designed to last for years.
In a few short weeks, a team from OFBC will be going to Tanzania, Africa and will take these shoes and will literally be putting them on the feet of those without shoes.
With YOUR contribution, you can help make this possible. The cost per pair of shoes is $15. We would ask that you give as generously as you can.
We have created a way for you to give to this outreach right here on our website. Follow these simply steps:
“I want to give a pair of shoes that grow!”.
(Be sure to select the “VBS Shoes Contribution” from the dropdown menu next to the amount given.)
Your gift is tax deductible and will be included on your annual giving statement at the end of the year.
